Malcolm Wilson - Mk1 Historic/Safari
In 2009 we were given the opportunity to build a shell for one of the biggest names in motorsport, namely, Malcolm Wilson.
We were given a brief to build a car to compete in the RAC Rally (MSA regulations) but that would also be suitable for use on the safari rally (FIA regulations). Eager to fulfil the needs of this rally legend we set about designing a car that would comply with both sets of regulations. With some innovative design features this shell has surpassed all of our expectations.

The Alloy arch has been riveted and bonded to a stepped panel in order to make the join flatter meaning less filler needs to be used and subsequently reduces the weight of the car.

We designed a new ZF tower adding a quick release feature which enables the tower to be removed in seconds allowing for a gearbox change in minutes. The modified heavy duty gearbox mounting takes up less room in the tunnel and also adds to the ease of a gearbox change.

A fully TIG welded historic spec cage using T 45 steel was fitted.

Due to the difference between MSA and FIA regulations we added brackets which allowed the cage to be bolted to the pillars (where regulations allow) to strengthen the shell for the demanding terrain of the safari rally.
